Is social media actually connecting us?

Is social media actually connecting us?

INTRODUCTION
1. Greetings of the day, the topic of today’s group discussion is a question raised in front of us, “is social media actually connecting us?
2. Social media has brought the world together, it’s a powerful tool that has effectively made the entire world, a global networking space.
3. In today’s world, social media has its leading advantages and disadvantages, it has brought the world under one umbrella, on the other hand it has led to severe issues which has made all distant from one another.
4. According to me, yes social media is a right tool, which is connecting people, all across the world.
5. Now I would like to open the house for discussion.

Pros of social media:

1. Connectivity across globe: Social media leads to worldwide connectivity, which enables people to interact with one another across the globe. Facebook, Instagram and twitter have brought multiple people closer where they can stay connected with another across the globe.
2. Multiple job opportunities in market: Multiple sites like LinkedIn, have helped job seekers to apply for jobs online and even form healthy connections with recruiters. Moreover, now social media handle is being promoted for which many people get good opportunities
3. Unity in diversity is being promoted by social media: Strong relationships get developed amongst people in order to promote unity, which has only been possible after social media came in pace.
4. Social media has been a blessing in times of Covid: Social media has helped people in maintaining their social life during the times of Covid. It has helped people to stay in contact with their friends and family even while leaving in isolation.
5. People do get sense of psychological satisfaction while sharing their opinions: people these days, find a mental relief while sharing their information online, pouring their feelings affront of people, which has been made possible only by social media.

Cons of social media:
1. Social media has brought people virtually together, which has made them lose real meaningful connections with friends and family. People hardly communicate with one another privately and are only interesting in posting on their accounts.
2. Now a days, people are more comfortable in talking with one another online, than in meeting them in real life situation. This has created social anxiety in people due to which they are unable to make face to face interactions
3. One of the biggest issues while using social media, is trolling. It has certainly affected the self esteem of many people and also has led to build up of poor social connections.
4. These days, people are more into social space than real world conversation, even while conversing with one another, they are easily distracted by their phones and are unable to make conversations with people.
5. The young generation these days, know which emoji to use while conversing, but not just the right facial expressions that’s how distant they have become in their worldly connections.

Conclusion:
• On behalf of everyone, I would like to take the initiation to conclude the discussion
1. It was quite a healthy/fruitful discussion where all members exchanged their viewpoints.
2. One must not forget as every coin has got two sides, similarly it completely depends on how we use social media.
3. There is need to guide youth on how efficiently we need to use social media, either we can be a part of close- knit communities based on share interests or we get addicted to social media, even digital detox is the right means to learn the usage of social media.
4. Discuss some star points of team mates.
5. Neutral ending
6. Thank you
