If you're a student looking to achieve success in your chosen field, YourPedia, the leading academic media company, can help you get there. For those interested in engineering, job opportunities can seem daunting at first, but YourPedia has created a new video to help you navigate the field. One option worth considering is working for Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a prestigious multinational oil and gas company. IOCL hires engineers for their Indian branches each year, with some positions filled through the GATE exam and others requiring a separate exam. YourPedia provides detailed information on IOCL job postings, including an interview with someone who recently landed a job at the company.
What is IOCL?
IOCL is India's premier national oil firm, with operations spanning across the entire hydrocarbon value chain, from refining, pipeline transportation, and the trading of petroleum products to exploration and production of crude oil and gas, as well as the sale of natural gas and petrochemicals. It is a government-owned enterprise whose operations are supervised by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. IOCL's headquarters are in New Delhi. It is the most sought-after employment among engineering graduates due to the numerous prospects for growth and learning.
Interaction
During an interview with YourPedia's team, Dr Vijayender Singh spoke with Mr. Deepam about his exceptional work in engineering and his journey towards being selected for IOCL. IOCL is often considered a dream job for many engineers due to its reputation as a fantastic organization to work for.
Dr Singh's first question was about Mr. Deepam's background and academic journey. Mr. Deepam shared that he is originally from Kolkata, West Bengal, and completed his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering in 2020.
In 2020, he passed the GATE exam and secured AIR 305. And based on his GATE score in 2020, he chose to pursue a Master's degree in Electronics and Telecommunication at Janakpur University without taking a gap year. Despite not achieving the top rank required for a position in a PSU, he was committed to his academic goals.
As we all know, strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. So, he prepared for the GATE Exam again in 2021 and successfully obtained AIR 472 and got 45 marks.Although not a very good score, it is true that once all the struggle is grasped, miracles are possible, as happened in this case. He was not expecting a call letter for the IOCL interview, but he was surprised when he got it. As Mr. Deepam told that in the SC category, the cut-off for calling letters for the IOCL interview was 28 in the year 2021 and the cut-off for selection in IOCL is 42.30. He got a composite score of 47.0.
Experience shared during the IOCL interview
The technical domain of the candidate is checked through a competitive exam like GATE . But the personality test is judged during the interview process . As said by Mr.Deepam, IOCL interviews students at three levels. Before starting with the interview, a short presentation detailing what IOCL is, what it provides, etc.,is shown, and after that, document verification is done. The panelists for the IOCL interview are six to seven members.
During the initial stage of the interview, the candidate is asked general questions about their background and qualifications to help them feel at ease. The first round of the interview focuses on academic and technical questions, including training. The second round is the HR round, where the interviewer asks about the candidate's personality strengths and weaknesses to determine their suitability for the job. Generally, more questions are asked in the HR round than in the technical round. In Mr. Deepam's HR round, he was asked about his CGPA, which was average at 7.5. He answered intelligently, discussing his struggles but highlighting his belief in hard work despite difficulties.
For aspiring candidates, it's important to thoroughly research the organization before the interview. If there are any gaps in the candidate's academic history, they should prepare an answer that showcases their strengths and engagement. It's also important for candidates to have a clear understanding of their project-related information, training data, and core subjects in their field.
Thirdly, Group discussion (GD) is conducted. Mr. Deepam has been given the topic ‘Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Real Life with Examples in GD by the two panelists, one male and another female. He was in a group of five candidates and was given only ten minutes for GD. His group was given three to four minutes to think about the topic given and was provided with pens and paper, which they collected back after GD.
At last, Group Task (GT) is given to the candidates, in which Mr. Deepam and their group members were given the task that in COVID-19 many people lose their jobs, especially laborers, so during the pandemic they suffered a lot regarding food, accommodation, etc. Hence, what are the ways or ideas to deal with these kinds of situations? And how can government help them?
Mr. Deepam achieved his dream of getting a government job by scoring well in the IOCL interview and being selected for a reputable position. YourPedia extends heartfelt congratulations to him on his accomplishment, as he has always desired a career in the public sector. His dedication to a career in the public sector has finally paid off, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with him.
The Game
MrDeepam's experience with the IOCL interview is being shared by YourPedia with great excitement. In his interview, he details his preparation journey and strategy, as well as how he succeeded in the exam. Every student has valuable insights to share, and this interview can greatly benefit others who aspire to this respected position at IOCL. We hope that this interview will serve as a source of motivation for aspiring students, providing them with a better understanding of the entire selection process.
It is important to note that at IOCL, the GATE weight-age is 85%, while the interview carries a weight-age of 15%. Candidates should not be discouraged if they do not rank well in GATE and must maintain their enthusiasm and hard work. Hard work always pays off. The key is to believe in oneself, think positively, and approach the exam with the right mindset. Ultimately, a candidate's mentality can make all the difference in the outcome.
